See the WNC Repair Café Grant Proposal HERE
In the fall of 2023, WNC Repair Cafe was awarded a grant to develop a repeatable workshop guide for leading young children through their own stuffed animal repairs. Workshops would include a short lesson plan demonstrating the link between sustainability and repair, followed by adult-guided, hands-on stuffed animal repair.
Through a series of four pilot workshops led by one educator and three skilled sewists, our goal was to develop a better understanding of how a stuffed animal repair program could work in a school setting. Over an 8 week period in early spring 2024, WNC Repair Cafe organized four separate free “Stitching Stuffies” workshops at two different Buncombe County, NC public libraries. We served a total of 39 kids, ages ranging predominately from 7 to 10. One child each ages 5 and 6 also attended.
A complete lesson plan and workshop guide are available in PDF format for download HERE. Also included is a summary of best practices and lessons learned, along with sample promotional materials and parent waivers.
